The Father Sent You to Earth
To be more effective in our intercession and in our walk with the Lord, we must see what God is really doing in our own hearts. We can achieve a greater level of effectiveness in our walk in the Spirit by seeking the Lord, repenting, and crying out to God—all of which comes from within us. We must believe who we are and what we are here to accomplish. We are those “who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:13). Write this Scripture down on a piece of paper and somehow paste it to your forehead so that when you look at yourself in the mirror, you say, “That’s right! I was not born out of anything from a natural level. I was born of the will of God, and I am here by the will of God.”
This understanding is important for us to grasp because we tend to relate to ourselves on a natural level. We talk about when we were born and say, “Here is my birthday, these are my parents, and this is where I went to school.” We attribute our being here on earth as coming from natural means only. But this Scripture in John says that is not true. We are here by the will of God. We were not born by the will of flesh and blood, but by God’s will. You must have clarity in this. The Father sent you to be in the earth at this moment in history. You are placed here with a purpose in God, and it is important that you do not lose the power behind knowing that.
We think about Christ and say, “Yes, He was born of God. And so were the apostles and prophets.” But you are just as sent as any other human has ever been sent by God into the world. That is how I read this Scripture in John 1:13. So I encourage you to read it again and confirm it in your heart. This has to be our starting point. If you are here by the will of God, then you are here in the will of God. And therefore, there is a will of God that you are to fulfill. “For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13).
We have two things to recognize: first, we are here because of God’s will, and second, He is working to perfect and bring about His will in us. So we have to stop selling ourselves short. These Scriptures must be the plumb line of how we think.
The Word of God Is Our Present Reality
The Word of God has to be our present reality. We have to come to the place where what God says in His Word is our truth now in this moment. It is not enough to know the Word God has given us; we must know how to manifest that Word. So how do I manifest the Scripture that God is at work in me to will and to do for His good pleasure? Notice that this verse is in the present tense. Everything about the Word of God only works in the present. If God put you here, then He also equipped you with every good thing you need to do His will (Hebrew 13:21). And having done that, He is at work in you to make that equipping function so that you become the expression of His Word.
The problem with religion is that it takes the Word of God and always puts its fulfillment into either the past or the future. Theological seminaries and Bible colleges are always that way. Denominational Christianity for years has been saying, “There is no more baptism in the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues. There is no prophecy in the Church. There are no more miracles. That’s all in the Bible, but it was for a former age and what is past is past.” Church teaching basically says, “Today we live in the age where we are waiting for the future. When you die, then you will go to heaven and receive your reward in the future.”
My mentor John Stevens faced this battle from the very beginning when God first met him. He often said, “It is not about pie in the sky; it’s about pie on my plate.” But he lived in an age that was absolutely against anything happening in the present. He was told, “Nothing can be now. Do not bring the Bible into now. You can read it all you want to, as long as you mentally and emotionally keep putting it either into the past or into the future. If you do that, then you will never endanger the status quo and the system as it exists today. If you stay safe in your Christian doctrines, then we will welcome you into the Christian community with open arms, and we will all get along.”
Let us examine this concept that “nothing in the Bible can be for now,” at least nothing big. Obviously, the Church accepts that salvation can be in our lives now. The cross can also be now as long as you are talking about the forgiveness of sin. But if you say, “I got saved and healed,” then that runs counter to the belief that there is no healing now. I may be overkilling this point, but you must understand that these concepts have been imparted deeply into the psyche of Christianity and the Church. Christian teaching, theology, and doctrine have deeply imprinted this concept on us. But we must see, first and foremost, that if something is going to change, it has to start in us. When we read the Scriptures, they have to be now.
What God Says Exists Now
We believe that the Bible is God’s living Word (Hebrews 4:12). The moment God says, “Let there be,” it exists. He is I AM, and what He says is. That is how creation was accomplished. “God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light” (Genesis 1:3). He did not say, “Let there be light, but you have to wait twenty years for it to happen.” He did not say, “Let there be light in the past, but now there is no more light for this generation.” What God says exists now. So when God says, “You are here, not by the will of flesh nor by the will of man, but by the will of God,” then you are here by the will of God. You have to take that into your mind and make it your present reality; anything that says differently is a lie.
We cannot go back and forth on this point. God’s Word is either true or it is not; and if it is true, then it is true now. Christ said, “The kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21, KJV). He also said, “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). Yeshua (Jesus) is with you now. But we keep waiting for Him to be with us at the end of the age. We think, “Yes, at the end of the age we are going to live in the presence of God. It will be so wonderful.” However, Yeshua said, “Lo, I am with you.” That means He is with us now. Study the Scriptures and you will see that God is speaking in the present tense to us now. What hinders our effectiveness is that we are caught in this duplicity of everything being fulfilled either in the past or in the future. But we must stop thinking that way.
God’s “divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3). That is all available now. But if I do not hold on to that Word and make it my present reality, and thank God for it now, and feel it now, and relate to it now, and battle off everything that comes to say that I cannot have it now, then I will let go of that Word by letting it slip away into either the past or the future. That is where we lose so much of the effectiveness in what we are trying to do.
End the Double-Mindedness
We cannot live a double-minded life. James writes,
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (James 1:5–8)
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” (James 4:8)
We love the Word; we have tried to relate to the Word, and we have tried to walk in the Word. But there is something in these Scriptures for us to grasp: the double-minded person receives nothing from God. We may be asking and believing for a lot of things to come into existence. But they do not manifest because of our double-mindedness. We use the term unbelief, but I think it is deeper than that. I think it is systemic; it is the way we were born. But at some point, we have to know that we are here by the will of God, and He gave us the equipping that we need.
You Have a Conscious and a Subconscious Mind
It is a scientific fact that we have two minds. We have a conscious mind and a subconscious mind, so we are double-minded. We know that our conscious mind can think and reason. We can relate to it and work with it. We have a relationship with our conscious mind and know how to teach it. We know how our thoughts work, and we can say, “Stop thinking that bad thought.” If you have to study for a test, your conscious mind knows how to sit there during that test and regurgitate the facts. We know how to talk to our conscious mind and educate it. We know a lot about our conscious mind and how it works. But how much do we really know about our subconscious mind? That becomes the issue.
Many scientific researchers are starting to recognize that the subconscious mind is the problem. Even when you are awake, 95 percent of your day is controlled by your subconscious mind. Most of us do not think that way. Instead, we think, “When I’m awake, I’m doing everything consciously. My conscious mind is functional, and I know what it is doing; therefore, I am in charge now with my conscious mind controlling my life and making my decisions.” The problem is that it does not work that way.
For instance, when you drive to work thinking about what you are going to do that day, your subconscious mind takes control of driving you to work. You may not remember the street names or the road you took because it was all done subconsciously. Also your heart beats because of your subconscious mind. Your autonomic nervous system runs your body; your conscious mind does not. Your conscious mind does very little with anything physical. It is true that you can decide, “I’m going to get out of this chair and walk across the room.” But the inner workings of your nervous system are not controlled by the conscious mind. Therefore, our subconscious mind is not necessarily in sync with our conscious mind, and a lot of problems are born out of that.
You may make the decision, “I’m going to start exercising. I’ve made up my mind. I’m setting my will—my conscious mind. I’ve studied the exercise program and learned how to do the exercises. I am going to exercise.” Then two days later you are not exercising anymore. Did your conscious mind torpedo that will and that thought? No, but there was nothing in your subconscious mind that supported it. We live crossing ourselves out more than we recognize because the subconscious mind is different than the conscious mind. Until we get these minds in sync, we do not have agreement, even within ourselves.
The Subconscious Mind Only Relates to Now
How do we get to oneness within ourselves? Oneness has a lot to do with the Holy Spirit. And it has a lot to do with our learning the subconscious mind the same way we know our conscious mind. We do not even know how to talk to our subconscious mind. Further, the subconscious mind does not relate to the past or to the future; it only relates to the now. We have to get in sync with this so we can relate to the Word as a present reality. My subconscious mind has to be brought into unification with my conscious mind in order for me to live in the present moment. Otherwise, I am constantly living in the past or looking forward to the future, and there is no power in that.
You can think about the future all you want; you can make plans for the future and visualize your future. But how much power or influence do you have to change that future? You do not have the power through your conscious mind to control things like that. Likewise, we lose the power of the Scriptures because we revert in our thinking to something being either in the past or in the future.
I will give you another example. When facing a difficult situation in my life, I asked the Lord, “How do I handle this?” So of course I thought, “I need a Scripture that absolutely anchors me in what has to happen.” Then Isaiah 54:17 came to me:
“No weapon that is formed against you will prosper;
And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
And their vindication is from Me,” declares the Lord.
I responded, “That’s it! Now every moment that Word has to be my permanent, present reality. I have to keep repeating it and be thankful for it in my heart.” If something says otherwise, I must say, “Stop! This is the truth. It is the Word of God. It is mine and I’m grateful for it. I’m rejoicing and dancing around the living room saying, ‘Hooray, this is my answer right now! I want to live in that Word because it already exists in the present moment.’”
Your subconscious mind will understand this approach because it lives in the present moment. Say to yourself, “God spoke this Word to me, and it is my reality now. Otherwise, I am just looking at this situation with my conscious mind.” Our logical thoughts are brought about by our sensory experiences of taste, touch, sight, and all that exists in the world of matter. However, all that is a lie because the Word of God says, “Let God be found true, though every man [and everything else] be found a liar” (Romans 3:4).
Resurrection Life Is for Now
The only way you can connect with the Word is through the present moment of now. “By His stripes, you are healed” (1 Peter 2:24). “I am healed” is a present reality. My conscious mind will fight that, but not my subconscious mind. My conscious mind will say, “Well, look in the mirror; you are not healed.” But you can answer, “Sorry, you need to line up with the Word of God and the subconscious mind.” The subconscious mind is far more powerful than the conscious mind. It moves at staggering rates compared to the conscious mind. The amount of computing power that exists in the subconscious far outweighs the conscious mind.
We see this contrast when Martha the sister of Mary came out to Yeshua after the death of Lazarus. She said, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died” (John 11:21). There is your doctrine of the past. Then Martha continued, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day” (John 11:24). And there is your future fulfillment of Scripture. But the Lord said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25). Yeshua was speaking in the present tense.
Some might say, “Resurrection life is going to manifest in the future when Christ returns; then we will put on this new body.” However, the new body is already available (Colossians 3:10; Ephesians 4:24). My new body exists now. Yet I do not put it on because my conscious mind thinks of it as some future experience for me. But the Scripture says, “Put on the Lord Jesus” (Romans 13:14). Not in the past, nor in the future; put Him on now! Yeshua said, “I am the resurrection. I am the life.” It is now.
Your Word Will Not Return to You Void
This is a learning experience for all of us. If we line up to the Word, it will happen. Christ was unwavering in His manifesting the Word (John 1:14). Yeshua performed miracles before He went to the cross. He realized that by the Word of God, His crucifixion, suffering, resurrection, and our healing were all a reality in the present moment because they already existed by the Word of God (Isaiah 53:5). How did He heal people? The Word of God to Yeshua was now; He was unmoved by anything else. And we can be unmoved. We can stop being double-minded. We must find ways to work with our subconscious mind to learn it and bring the conjunction between our subconscious and conscious minds so that we are no longer double-minded. We can be of one mind.
When we look at the early Church in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, we read, “All the believers were one in heart and mind” (Acts 4:32, NIV). What an amazing thing. So there is a way in the Holy Spirit that we can see this happen for us, and that is what I am reaching for.
I have covered a lot of points, but I just want to explode this in your hearts so that you can say, “Thank You, Lord. Your Word is true, and it is not going to return to You void, because I am going to make it my reality in this earth right now.” When we have that, then we will move on a much greater level of effectiveness.
