Yeshua (Jesus) used parables in His teaching to help us understand deep spiritual truths that are difficult to grasp on a natural level. In the parable about the wedding feast, God tells us what He has done, who He is, and how He feels.
Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. And he sent out his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come. Again he sent out other slaves saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fattened livestock are all butchered and everything is ready; come to the wedding feast.”’ But they paid no attention and went their way, one to his own farm, another to his business, and the rest seized his slaves and mistreated them and killed them. But the king was enraged, and he sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and set their city on fire.” (Matthew 22:1–7)[1]
The Father has made salvation and the world of the Spirit available to us at a great price to Himself and to Yeshua, His Son. He “has granted to us everything pertaining to life and to godliness” (2 Peter 1:3). So we must feel God’s heart, His drive, His love—and feel that he is grieved and angered if we hold these things lightly. We must have a drive to go into the realm of spirit, into the world of the Kingdom, and receive everything God has made available for us.
God has put so much energy into the creation of our salvation to bring about the forgiveness, the healing, and all that is provided in it. That is what this king was expressing: “Listen, I have fattened my livestock and prepared everything for this wedding feast.” But the invited guests paid no attention and went on their way, one to his farm, another to his business. God may have made all this available to us, but it is often not catching our attention and driving us into the appropriation of all that He has provided. We can simply go about our day without feeling God’s heart and seeing His sorrow. We are not feeling the Father’s pain at the death and suffering of His Son.
Come before the Father in repentance today and say, “Father, forgive me for not recognizing the cost that You paid to provide grace, forgiveness, healing, and deliverance for me. Forgive me for my lack of thankfulness as I go about my day putting value on other things that, when we look back from eternity in the Kingdom, are truly worthless things. They are of no value compared to the suffering of the cross, and Your goodness to see mankind restored in a relationship with You.”
The King is waiting at the wedding supper for us to come and freely partake of everything He has already made available. Come before Him with gratitude and thanksgiving. Come with joy and the humility that receives by grace all that He has provided. His suffering to bring about our salvation is beyond our understanding. Someday in the Kingdom we may grasp the totality of it. But all we need to know now is that grace is available to us because of God’s great love for His creation. Let us show up at the wedding feast and receive all that the King has prepared.
