Everything about God is oneness and everything about satan is division. God is always trying to bring you into a oneness with Himself. The whole point of the Shema prayer is that God is One, and everything He does revolves around oneness (Deuteronomy 6:4). Yeshua (Jesus) said, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30).[1] The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are absolutely one to the point where there is no distinction, and yet they are absolutely distinct. That is how God works. That is what God was trying to do when He made man and woman and said, “These two are going to be one.” There is nothing more different than a man and a woman but there is going to be a oneness.
The issue of sin is division: “Your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God” (Isaiah 59:2). We see this in the Garden of Eden. When satan got Adam and Eve to be disobedient, it caused a separation between them and God (Genesis 3:8–10). Not only were they separated from God, but they were also separated out of the Garden; they were divided from access to the things of God. Division is always working to keep you separated from the precious and magnificent promises that bring us provision and life (2 Peter 1:4). But everything in God works by coming back into oneness.
Adam and Eve were created as innocent children of God, and all creation was very good (Genesis 1:31). But God created mankind with free will and He will never violate your free will. Even satan had a choice. He had a choice to be in oneness with God, to worship God, to submit to God. But he chose to try to make himself like the Most High (Isaiah 14:14). When he did that, he had to be separated from God, and wickedness was introduced to the earth. Therefore, all division is from satan; it is a sign of his presence and a result of who and what he is. So if you get into an argument with someone or have family problems, recognize that the problem is the division that is separating you. Honestly recognize it, refuse it, and simply say, “This division is not mine; it is satan’s. My focus is on oneness. I am one with God and one with my family.” We are to be one.
Oneness came through obedience. Everything Yeshua did was to reconcile us with God. The sacrifice of Christ was obedience: “He learned obedience from the things which He suffered” (Hebrews 5:8). Yeshua was “obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Philippians 2:8). Everything Yeshua did was in absolute obedience because He was counteracting the principle of separation that satan had set in motion. Thus, at the cross the veil of separation was torn in two (Luke 23:45).
When the Body of Christ comes into oneness, a lot of things are going to start working. We are not going to tolerate anything of division in our midst: in ourselves, in our families, or in our community. Christ is not divided, and the Body of Christ cannot be divided any longer. The only true division is between God and satan. Everything else in creation Yeshua reconciled. So in simple obedience you can say, “I refuse division!” That is where you start. We are the righteousness of God because we are one with Him. We submit ourselves to the Lord, resist the devil, and simply sweep him out of our presence (James 4:7).
